Journey On relaxation exercise: July 20, 2010

I found the exercise to be relaxing enough. The commentators voice was relaxing and calm. The music was calming also. I do feel like he did talk a little too much, but that may be because I've never really done an exercise like that before. Usually if I "meditate" (if you will), I sit quietly by myself and try to do mental imagery. My dog wasn't helping the situation either while she kept licking my leg.

I find it hard to meditate because I am easily distracted by things. Or things pop in my head of what I need to do. I can't just sit there for very long to actually relax my mind. I'm hoping to be able to get over that with the information from this class and my previous class (Stress Management).

I'm looking forward to the other exercises for this class. Also, if anyone doesn't know yet, the Health & Wellness Center that Kaplan has on their homepage also offers a number of meditation and relaxation exercises to listen to.

  1. Danielle, thanks for the information on Kaplan's health and wellness center, I would have never know, as this is an elective for me.

I had a hard time too with random thoughts and the thing is the focus on breathe really helps to keep you in the moment. Other than that if thoughts creep in just recognize them then let them go. Otherwise you will have a battle in your mind raging about you can't seem to keep your mind quiet. It's tricky at first and often times we are too hard on ourselves and that makes us give up easily. So my word of wisdom (if you can call it that) is give yourself a break, it'll happen just the way it is supposed to.
